Hey there,
Ken from LaunchClub again 👋
This week I spotted a very expensive Reddit mistake even Google is making 👀
But first, let’s look at a new study that shows just how little your SEO strategy impacts how often you’re cited in ChatGPT…
Top rankings ≠ AI citations
Fun fact: Nearly half of the SaaS brands sitting in Google's top 10 are completely invisible to ChatGPT.
EMGI Group just published a study of where 150 SaaS companies across six categories are showing up in AI citations.
The findings are not pretty for the ‘aEo iS JuSt seO!’ crowd:
44% of Google's top-10 SaaS brands get zero ChatGPT citations for the same keywords
81% of the brands ChatGPT actually recommends aren't in Google's top 10 at all
In 5 out of 6 SaaS categories, a different brand leads in ChatGPT than in Google
Here’s my take…
If you're assuming your Google rankings translate to AI visibility, they don't. The two are basically unrelated.
New research from AirOps backs this up. DA and backlinks “show no positive correlation with AI citation”. The stuff you built your SEO strategy on for the last twenty years? Largely irrelevant.
What actually moves the needle:
Short articles that answer specific questions, not ultimate guides
Structured data that makes your content easy for bots to parse
How your brand is being talked about on third-party sites
That last one is the big one. YouTube, LinkedIn, and Reddit are the biggest drivers of AI citations right now – and most SaaS brands are barely showing up on any of them 🤷
This will tank your Reddit marketing
I spotted this comment in the wild this week:

So DeerRun paid to get noticed… then wished they hadn't 🫣
Here’s my take…
When someone sees an ad, they will look for proof. They want to see if real people are vouching for you.
So what do they search?

Ouch 😬
And much bigger brands than Deer Run are running into this problem.

If you’re not building out an authentic Reddit presence, you're not just wasting ad spend. You're actively damaging your brand every time someone looks you up.
And the best time to start is before you run the ads.
